Fixing Slow Mail Delivery

A new publisher inherited a delivery nightmare - subscribers just 30 minutes away were waiting days or weeks for their papers. CJP navigated the USPS bureaucracy on his behalf, and now 100% of surveyed subscribers are happy with delivery.

The Problem

When Mike purchased a weekly community newspaper, he quickly discovered an ugly surprise: subscribers less than half an hour from his office were receiving their papers days - sometimes weeks - after mailing. For a new publisher still learning the business, USPS logistics felt like an unsolvable puzzle.

Mike had recently partnered with CJP for subscriber management and mailings, so he asked if we could help with delivery too.

The Solution

We identified which towns were good candidates for exceptional dispatch - a USPS option that lets publishers bypass slower regional sorting by dropping papers directly at local post offices.

CJP handled the legwork: we provided Mike with a ready-to-go form letter to request exceptional dispatch permission from his postmaster, then reconfigured his mailing sort so each town’s papers could be easily grouped for direct delivery.

Mike’s only job was to walk the letter into the post office. We did the rest.

The Results

Local subscribers now receive their papers promptly instead of waiting days. Complaint calls about slow or missing delivery dropped significantly.

100% of subscribers polled by CJP reported satisfaction with their paper’s delivery.
